Cycling

This 40km cycle is biking heaven whether you’re a passionate cycling enthusiast or simply just want some fresh air. The path follows the old rail track under arches bridges, through tunnels and past the beautiful countryside of the midlands with plenty of entry and exit points that let you explore the villages and attractions along the way.

Golfing

Glasson Stone Lodge is ideally located between three beautiful courses: Glasson Lakehouse & Golf Club (5min), Athlone Golf Club (17min) and Mount Temple Golf Club (10min). Each have their own unique picturesque views from tapering the waters edge to overlooking the county’s lakes and countryside.

Shopping

Shop until you drop in the largest shopping centre in the Irish midlands – Athlone Towncentre (15min). There’s something for everyone, from fashion & beauty to groceries & gifts, with over 60 stores in the main shopping centre & countless other shops, cafés, bars and restaurants throughout the town.

Trails

With multiple trails nearby Glasson Stone lodge, like Portlick Forest (8min) and Warren Point, find time to embrace nature, and enjoy the native trees, and views of Lough Ree.

Viking Tour

Step back 1,200 years and join the Vikings on a replica Viking Ship. Cruise up the River Shannon to Lough Ree or down river to the monastic settlement and round towers of Clonmacnoise whilst hearing live commentry on Viking hoardes, the beauty of the river, its flora, fauna, bird and fish life. Fun and excitement for all the family.

Fishing

Athlone offers some of the best coarse fishing anywhere. Huge bream, rudd and tench have been caught on the inner lakes of Lough Ree. And for fly fishermen this is a mecca too. Lough Ree offers very good trout fishing and south of Athlone, along on the Shannon, salmon and sea trout await the right fly.

Boating on the Shannon

Athlone is one of the biggest towns on the Shannon River, and yet it has managed to retain its’ old world charm within the narrow streets. If you are looking for an escape for the day, why not hire a boat and head out on the shannon knowing there is there is a wide variety of pubs and restaurants to choose from when you return

Bird Watching

Go bird watch in Portlick forrest and see a wide range of birds from Pheasants and Swans to black headed Gulls, Tree Creepers and Great Crested Grebes.
